A British primary school has caught the Hogwarts bug and is teaching wizardry to its students, The Times reports.

Children are taught herbology in science, chant formulas with wands in maths classes and practice broomstick balancing techniques in physical education at Robert Mellors Primary School in Nottingham.

Head teacher Donna Chambers said the scheme has had a "phenomenal impact on behaviour and on the whole school".

“Learning is so much fun, pupils want to be engaged," she said.

"They have studied the history of flight, written scripts and really believe in what they’re learning about.

"They don’t realise we’re ticking boxes in the national curriculum as well."

Students are not the only muggles under the spell: teachers also parade the school in Dumbledore-style dress, complete with witches hats and wands.

To complete the spell, the school's four houses have been renamed Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.

Author J.K.Rowling's influences materialised at the school as part of an incentive program to help children become more involved in their lessons.

Pupils pick a different theme each term to impact how the curriculum is taught and this time they voted for Harry Potter.

The program has not only lifted the spirits of the students, but their grades as well, according to Ms Chambers.

"Over the last three years, standards and achievement have improved greatly,” she said.
