1. i got freebies from volunteering. (as you can see from crappy mobile phone camera)

felt so uni melb branded walking out of that place..

2. i made a terrible mistake of volunteering and not putting up my hand to work that day..

very well put together piece. I could see why some pplz would like to watch it again.

the only thing i was dissatisfied with was the ending. it was a little too abrupt for me.

felt almost a lil tini bit cheated. well that's too strong a word.

only coz prior to that ending there was a lot building up to it. and i thought it would

be natural for a director to tie in a few bits here and there of how they got to a certain place.

but nope. Just jumped straight to the situation. which i guess is another reason why

people would want to re-watch. or are left with filling in what could have happened in their

own heads.

Kotoe Ishii (2008 Next Wave Festival artist, Next Wave Time Lapse artist) features in this group exhibition by four Melbourne-based Japanese women.

PRESENT(IN)TENSE is an exhibition using various mediums (i.e. texts, drawing, sound, video and/or three-dimensional materials), and is based on ideas about ‘transnational self’. All four exhibiting artists came to Australia from Japan as adults. After almost a decade away from Japan, they found themselves in a state where they could not clearly define their societies. They sometimes feel that they share a certain cultural background, but at the same time their national and cultural identification are often drifting away from each other. This complex nature of (un)shared senses of we-ness and them-ness drove them to form this exhibition in collaboration.

PRESENT(IN)TENSE explores how these four women figure out their identity in ‘present tense’.

Featuring Kotoe Ishii, Mayuko Itoh, Mutzumi Nozaki and Makiko Yamamoto.

5. It's more squashy seating wise than AnAn layout for some reason
